Defining Personalized Travel to Belize since 1988

If you want to unwind, dive and snorkel a bit, kayak a little, fish some, hammock a lot, and fall asleep to the gentle sound of the waves coming ashore - this is the place!

SOUTH WATER CAYE

Imagine an island less than a half mile long, covered with white coral sand, tropical flowers, and coconut trees, surrounded by warm, crystal clear water, enveloped in coral reefs that wrap more than half way around the island. Imagine snorkeling in water waist deep, through barrier and patch reefs teeming with fish and marine life. This is South Water Caye!

Map of BelizeThis private island is one of the few islands off Belize that sit right atop the barrier reef and right in the middle of Belize's largest marine protected area, the South Water Caye Marine Reserve. South Water Cayes location offers excellent opportunities to explore any of the myriad of coastal gardens, ten mangrove cayes and two large mangrove ranges, which are all located within the marine reserve.

Big Rock FallsIn 1996 UNESCO included South Water Caye in it's World Heritage list of protected sites of "universal value to humanity." They cited the reef ecosystems remarkable biological diversity and beauty, calling it an area "of great scientific value" and noting that it is a habitat for threatened species such as the West Indian manatee and a variety of sea turtles.

South Water Caye is situated 14 miles off the coast of Belize and the town of Dangriga.

Things To Do from South Water Caye

South Water CayeWithin this sheltered reef environment, the shallow water is calm and inviting, with white sandy beaches and mangroves providing breeding grounds for the spectacular sea-life that attracts divers from around the world. Here you have the opportunity to dive, snorkel, and swim among towers of unspoiled coral or above emerald beds of sea grass teeming with a diverse spectrum of marine life.

SCUBA Diving

SCUBA DivingThe walls off South Water Caye offer some of the best diving in Belize. From just off the caye, extending about 8 miles to the south, lies an underwater cliff face. This wall starts at between 35 to 65 feet and drops off into the abyss. Turtles and eagle rays are the most common large animal encounter. Deep dives are planned over the “drop off”, with both the wall and the deep blue at your sides. Shallow dives are conducted just inside the outer reef.

Snorkeling

SnorkelingYou can snorkel right off the southern tip of the island. The caye is surrounded by a multitude of marine habitats and with visibility ranging from 60 to 100 feet, snorkelers often have close encounters with eagle rays, sea turtles, and a variety of exotic coral reef fish. Guided snorkeling tours cover the patch reefs, floating mangrove roots, spur and groove formations outside the reef, a large sinkhole and over the "drop off".

Water Sports

FishingFishing - Score a Grand Slam with permit, tarpon, and bone-fish all in one day! Flats teeming with bone-fish and permit are close to the island. Troll the channels for barracuda or king fish, or cast in the blue for wahoo and tuna. For some light fishing you can use hand lines and fish right off the docks.

FishingCatamarans and sea kayaks are available for guests.

Birding

Frigate birdsAn assortment of wading and shore birds are resident on the island, along with pelicans and osprey. From South Water Caye, Birders can travel by boat to the remote and uninhabited island of Man O' War Caye to observe magnificent frigate birds and the brown booby.
